Per 1.5-g vial Sultamicillin: Ampicillin Na 1,000 mg, sulbactam Na 500 mg
Indications/Uses
Upper & lower resp tract infections; bacterial pneumonia; UTI & pyelonephritis; intra-abdominal infections; cholecystitis; endometritis & pelvic cellulitis; bacterial septicemia; skin, soft tissue, bone & joint infections & gonococcal infections. Prophylaxis of abdominal or pelvic surgical infection.
Dosage/Direction for Use
IV or IM route. Usual dosage range: 1.5-12 g/day in divided doses 6-8 hrly. Prophylaxis of surgical infections 1.5-3 g at induction of anesth 6-8 hrly. Childn, infant & neonate 150 mg/kg/day 6-8 hrly.
Contraindications
History of allergic reactions to penicillins & sulbactam.
Special Precautions
Overgrowth of nonsusceptible organism. Discontinue if superinfection occur. Check periodically for organ system dysfunction during prolonged therapy.
Adverse Reactions
Pain at inj site. GI disturbances, skin rash, itching, blood disorders. Transient rise in SGPT & SGOT.
Drug Interactions
Probenecid, allopurinol, aminoglycosides (if reconstituted together).
